What Traffic Tactics No Longer Work (And What Does)

Internet Marketers were slapped hard by the recent Panda and Penguin updates from Google. Sites were lost and people literally lost thousands of dollars of revenue just like that!

If you are one of those who were earning fast cash through the sites, you will know how painful it could be to lose everything you spent years building.

This led many marketers to start wondering what they can do to generate better traffic that will not cause their website to shut down suddenly.

I am going to let you in on what Google does not like these days based on the recent reports, and what traffic tactics you should be focusing on instead.

What does not work?

1. Sending your site to all the article directories

If you do this, your site will risk being de-indexed by Google because they will realize that you are building back-links inorganically. I used to use article submission software in the past for article marketing but realized that the links were useless in raising my rankings in niches.

Moreover, Google can tell if you are linking to random article directories that might not have any relevance to your content or article. You will get penalized for this.

What you should be doing instead is to submit to the top 5 article directories (based on page rank) and submit to specific directories linked to your niche. Even if they are not high up in the Google ranking system, the fact that they relate to your content is a plus in Google's books.

2. Dumb blog commenting

This is pretty popular about 3 years ago. There was a wave of software that does the commenting for you. It took a while for marketers to realize that using a software does very little to building good quality back-links because:

- Most of them send random comments that do not relate to the blog's content (I get this a lot)

- Most bloggers like myself are smart enough to download plugins to help prevent blog spam. We can easily blog your comments.

- Google can tell and your link might get blacklisted or worst de-indexed.

The right way to do it is the organic way. Go to blogs related to your niche and regularly post there. Leave a link inside. If you are sincere, you will find people clicking on your link.

3. Over SEO Optimization

Yes, Google is clamping down on sites that are too well optimized! Some bloggers tend to include keywords in an incoherent way in their websites to raise the rankings. They might resort to putting their keywords all over the site. While this method used to work and people used to talk about keyword density of 4 - 5%, this is no longer true.

Google does not care about your keyword density. They care about one thing - valuable and attractive content.

What you should be doing instead is focusing on providing great content on your website. It is okay to get inspiration but you need to add your own perspective and ideas inside to personalize it.

To keep your website safe is simple. Provide the best content possible and you will not fall into the trap that thousands of marketers fall into.
